My Approach

Payvand Kamrani, DO, FAAD

The best version of you.

Dr. Kamrani is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained cosmetic dermatologist at Aesthetic Solutions in Chapel Hill. She treats all things skin and hair: lasers and energy-based devices, neuromodulators and fillers, biostimulators, hair loss procedures and medication, and sclerotherapy for leg veins. A large part of her practice is women in perimenopause and menopause, who often arrive frustrated that the routine that worked for a decade suddenly stopped working.

Her goal is for patients to feel like the best version of themselves. She doesn't call it anti-aging, because aging isn't the problem to solve. The aim is that as you get older you look refreshed and rested, and your skin matches how you feel on the inside. Her work is deliberately subtle: small, well-placed changes that let your own features read better, rather than making you look like someone else. She takes a 360-degree approach, combining treatments so the result is natural but still worth doing.

What drew her to dermatology is that it's one of the few fields where science and art are both the job. She's thinking about anatomy and mechanism, and at the same time about proportion and balance. She worked at a dermatology office after graduating from college and was so drawn to the field that she specifically went to medical school with the goal of becoming a dermatologist.

She is also an active clinical researcher with more than thirty-five peer-reviewed publications. Her current interests include cellular senescence and how aging cells change the skin around them, the role hormones play through menopause, and what GLP-1 medications do to skin and fat on a molecular level, a question a lot of patients are living through right now with very little real data behind it. She has lectured nationally and internationally, and her research has been recognized with the IMCAS NextGen Derm Award and the ASDS Carruthers Award for Best Fellow Research. She was named Best Dermatologist in Durham for 2026.

She completed her dermatology residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident, and earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Drawn to lasers and cosmetics, she went on to train where many of these devices were first studied: a Laser and Cosmetic Surgery fellowship at Cosmetic Laser Dermatology in San Diego, under Drs. Mitchel Goldman, Kimberly Butterwick, and Sabrina Fabi.

She now practices at Aesthetic Solutions in Chapel Hill, NC, serving the community where she grew up. She lives here with her husband, and outside of work she loves traveling to different countries, hiking, and reading.
